Shaw's
Cowfish
Shaws cowfish (Arcana
aurita) grows to similar size and
shape as the Orante species. Contrarily, Shaws is
encountered more often than the other two Australian
species. It is brightly colored with a light background
contrasted against dark stripes. Males can be
distinguished by the blue coloring, which females lack.
Shaws Cowfish
acclimate to aquarium life very easily. In fact, the
voracious appetites quickly accept any foods, including
fingers! So be careful if hand feeding them. Juveniles
are especially enjoyable and do extremely well with the
Potbelly Seahorse as tank mates. As with other cowfish,
corals and invertebrates will become meals in their
tanks. This species is particularly found of feather
duster worms.
