Green Spotted Puffer
Tetradon fluviatitis
This brackish water puffer is found in waters surrounding Southeast Asia. It can achieve a length of 7 inches and would be most comfortable in an aquarium of at least 20 gallons. This fish prefers a well decorated tank, but plants should be very hardy. Typically, this species is greenish with brown to black spotting. It also has backward pointing spines which become visible only when the fish is inflated. However, it does lack ventral spines, which is one feature that distinguishes it from other closely related species. The Brackish water Puffer is omnivorous, accepting a large variety of foods, such as freeze-dried shrimp, krill, and any seafood. It is most fond of live foods, such as live brine shrimp, ghost or glass shrimp, and black worms. The fish should also be fed some plant matter, as it will shred live plants growing in the aquarium. This species is very aggressive. They do not tolerate each other very well, and tank mates of other species should not be too shy or have long finnage.
