Bluelined
Triggerfish

Pseudobalistes
fuscus

This species is
referred to as Bluelined Triggerfish, Blue Triggerfish,
Rippled Triggerfish, or Yellowspotted Triggerfish.
Juveniles are
yellow-bodied and thickly covered with blue lines. A
black saddle spot appears between the eyes, at the base
of both dorsal fins, and on the caudal peduncle. In an
excited state, the fishs black spots appear to grow
until the body is entirely black with pale iridescent
blue lines. As adults, the body coloring develops to
orange or green. These fish grow to about 22 inches,
requiring an aquarium of 200 gallons.
They enjoy sandy
bottoms, so aquarists may want consider providing a fine
or sandy substrate in the aquarium. Aquarists will enjoy
watching them blow into the substrate, seeking hidden
invertebrates. They are particularly fond of hard-shelled
echinoderms and tubeworms. Hence, they are not reef safe.
They are best kept
with large, aggressive fish in a large aquarium.
Although, it is not unusual for this fish to nip at any
fish that comes near it. It is also one of the worst
species, known for rearranging the tank, including large
pieces of rock.
